Synbiotics are a combination of probiotics and prebiotics that come in the form of nutritional supplements. Combined, probiotics and prebiotics have a greater impact than when taken alone.

In a recent article, Synbiotics show anti-eczema potential for kids: Meta-analysis, author Stephen Daniells has written about an international team of researchers who have reported that synbiotics are most effective against eczema in children when multiple probiotic strains are combined with prebiotic fibers.

The study took place in Taipei, Taiwan and examined data from six different trials. Overall, the use of synbiotics for child eczema significantly reduced eczema symptoms with positive affects that exceeded the use of probiotics alone.

Use of synbiotics look very promising and we will continue to watch for more studies and developments in the use of synbiotics to treat eczema in children.
