We had great interest in our blog “Paraben Free Eczema Creams” so we're following it up with a post on paraben free eczema cleansers! At AD RescueWear we use environmentally friendly TENCEL® fabric for our eczema therapy clothing and we’re conscious about the products we use on ourselves and our kids. Parabens are a group of chemicals that may interfere with the endocrine (hormones) system. We make sure to steer clear of products containing parabens. Five of these parabens are banned in Europe but none are banned in the US. We’re happy to report there are some good paraben-free options, including kids bubble bath (my kids loved bubble baths when they were younger but I was always cautious with my younger son who had eczema, so this made me happy!)
When you have eczema and sensitive skin picking a cleanser can be tricky. Even naturally derived ingredients can cause irritation. Below are four paraben free cleansers that have been formulated especially for people with eczema or sensitive skin. Two of the four cleansers have been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance® (NEA SOA) which we like as our Wrap-E-Soothe eczema therapy clothing for eczema also carries the NEA Seal of Acceptance®. For more information about the NEA Seal of Acceptance® please visit the website.
Paraben Free Cleansers for Eczema:
- Free and Clear® Liquid Cleanser for Sensitive Skin from Pharmaceutical Specialties (the makers of Vaniply) – This is a great cleanser for the whole family, Vanicream products are doctor recommended and free from common chemical irritants such as dyes, fragrance, masking fragrance, lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers and they are betaine, soap, sulfate, phosphate and gluten free.
- Skin Fix® Eczema Soothing Wash – I just found out about this and can’t wait to try. It’s a mild, coconut based cleanser and per the company website it's "dermatologist tested and recommended, comprised of 98% natural ingredients, free of fragrance, nut ingredients, soy, sulfates, parabens and phthalates". It’s also an NEA Seal of Acceptance product.
- TruKid® Eczema Care Bubble Podz – The TruKid® bubble bath podz carry the NEA Seal of Acceptance and are natural and non-toxic, eczema safe, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, gluten, phthalate and paraben free. They also take their environmental stewardship a step further and are PETA Certified Animal Cruelty-Free and use biodegradable 100% recyclable, BPA-free packaging. Bravo!
- TrueCider Shampoo and Body Wash by Cheryl Lee MD – Readers who love our blog on apple cider vinegar baths will be interested in this wash. I’m always looking for anti-aging products that are good for sensitive skin. Per the company website this dual shampoo and body wash is comprised of “organic apple cider vinegar, gluconolactone, lactobionic acids and PCA for added skin barrier acidification and age fighting, skin brightening benefits.” And it’s “free of cocamidopropyl betaine - known to cause allergic reactions in some people, glucosides, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) which often cause allergic reactions, fragrances - associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system, parabens - preservatives that are known to alter the natural hormones of the body (hormone disruptors), MEA, DEA, TEA, MCI/MI, silicones, formaldehyde releasers - known carcinogenic to humans.”
When trying new products always check the ingredients for any allergens and it’s best to try a small amount to test for reactions before using all over you or your child’s body. And if you have any questions about ingredients don’t hesitate to ask your physician.
We hope this list of paraben free eczema cleansers gets you and your kids excited about getting clean. Let us know of any other great paraben free eczema cleansers we should know about. We love to hear from you.
