Vitamin D

Studies have shown that those with a deficiency in Vitamin D may be predisposed to show symptoms and an increased severity of eczema. Vitamin D is an immune system booster, especially helping to reduce inflammation. Vitamin D has shown promise in preventing eczema and minimizing the symptoms of eczema.

Those who have low levels of Vitamin D, especially those living in northern, colder climates, could benefit from keeping their Vitamin D levels in check, especially if they suffer from eczema. Talk to your child's physician about a Vitamin D test. It is a blood test so it may be easier to give your child a Vitamin D supplement. Vitamin A

The use of Vitamin A, both topically and orally, is commonplace for treating skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Vitamin A helps the skin suppress cellular growth that can be associated with inflammation and flare-ups.

The body’s immune system also benefits from Vitamin A, helping the fight against microbes that can affect the skin. In an eczema breakout, the aggressive portion of the immune system has been weakened, while the more reactive portion is working overtime, causing the inflammation. Vitamin A helps boost the aggressive component of the immune system and combat the microbe while subduing the reactive component which causes the inflammation.

Consider adding these foods to your child's diet:  sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, winter squashes, lettuce, dried apricots, cantaloupe, bell peppers, fish, and tropical fruits.
